How a move is graded
Each Charleston pass and discard is rated Best, Good, OK, or Costly. The grade comes from simulating games and moves from that spot. It is not a copy of the official card, and it is not a record of real tables.
The four grades
- Best. The move the simulation favors for the hand you are playing.
- Good. A sound move that is not the one the simulation likes most.
- OK. Playable, and still a step off. OK calls are worth tracking when they repeat.
- Costly. The move that gives the hand away, feeds an exposure, or chases a wall that cannot finish.
The bands are set wider than simulation noise, so a grade means something. After the hand, the review shows the grade tally and the one decision that swung the hand.
What it is not A grade is not a promise about the next game. It is a reading of that pass or discard, from simulated games.
Bring your own card. NowMahj doesn't reproduce card hands. The official card is at nationalmahjonggleague.org.
